American Maritime Partnership recognizes Wicker for dedication to waterway’s industry.
The American Maritime Partnership (AMP) has awarded U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) with its 2012 Champion of Maritime award. The Champion of Maritime award is presented to an individual who has displayed extraordinary dedication to and consistent support for the American maritime industry.
Washington-based AMP is a national coalition representing elements of the United States domestic maritime industry, including shipyards, ship operators, seafarers, and pro-defense organizations.
The American Waterways Operators (AWO), a 350-member trade association based in Arlington, Va. representing the nation’s tugboat, towboat and barge industry, has congratulated Wicker on the honor. “This distinction is indeed a high honor,” says Tom Allegretti, AWO president and CEO. “Time and again, Sen. Wicker has exercised leadership that demonstrates his recognition of the importance of the maritime industry both to his home state of Mississippi and to the entire country.”
Allegretti also said the organization is grateful for the senator’s willingness to educate his colleagues about the importance of the nation’s waterways to economic and national security efforts.
