Services will include a study on the effect of dredging will have on several Texas harbors.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, (USACE) Galveston District, Texas, has awarded a task order to Sol Engineering LLC for $239,380.19 for environmental services to include a study comprised of collection and chemical analyses of water and sediment samples from the federally-maintained Brazos Island Harbor, Entrance Channel and Brazos Island Harbor, Brownsville Channel in Texas.
Routine testing allows staff to analyze and evaluate shoal material to determine whether unacceptable impacts would result from dredging operations prior to maintenance of the channel.
“Water and sediment samples will be collected from the federally-maintained navigation channel for the purpose of conducting testing to characterize the shoal material that will be excavated during routine maintenance dredging,” says Lisa Finn, with the USACE Galveston Environmental Section. “The material will be evaluated to determine whether unacceptable adverse impacts would result from dredging and dredged material placement operations and will consist of chemical analyses of sediment, water, elutriate samples and grain-size analyses.”
